As Easter draws to a close, our eyes now turn to the developing weather pattern over the next few days. An area of Low pressure to the west of the UK on Monday will dive southeastwards to become situated around the Bay of Biscay by Wednesday. At the same time, the wind direction will shift from a southerly to an easterly, as a result of the change of positioning of the area of Low pressure.
Over the past few days, Holland and Belgium have reached up to 25°C on most days, with widespread thunderstorms developing during the evening. The hot and humid airmass present over these countries currently will slowly drift across southern, central and eastern England by Tuesday thanks to the change in wind direction.
What is becoming increasingly apparent is the risk of thunderstorms towards midweek. At this early stage there is some uncertainty as to the parts of England that are most likely to be affected and at what time, if at all.
However, from the latest data output, current thinking is that thunderstorms will develop across the Low Countries of Europe on Tuesday afternoon, and are likely to drift across our region during Tuesday evening. There may be a very warm and sunny period on Wednesday before a risk of further thundery downpours arrive later in the afternoon and during the evening.
This forecast is subject to change over the next few days, as the accuracy of the forecasts increases. However at this stage we are just highlighting the fact that there is currently a 70% chance of thunderstorms this coming week. |
