With only one more day until the meteorological Spring (the months of March, April and May) begins, the weather is set to change significantly. For the past 2 weeks it has remained consistently settled, cloudy and fairly mild with little fluctuation in the temperature. However from next week, in particular late Tuesday onwards, it is expected to turn much colder with the return of overnight frosts.

At this stage detail will always remain uncertain, but there is a possibility of some wintry showers midweek of rain, hail, sleet or snow. However, one thing is for certain - the weather will be more variable and unsettled than it has been for the 2nd half of February.

Yesterday the Met Office released their Spring forecast, in which they predicted, for the United Kingdom as a whole, average or below average rainfall, and temperatures around average or below average. This generally means that Spring on the whole, at this stage, is expected to be largely cool and settled.
