About Us

Weald of Kent Weather was founded and launched on 1st February 2009, upon the purchase of a LaCrosse WS2350 automatic weather station by a long-term resident of Staplehurst. Originally built to display live weather data, this site has rapidly grown over the years and now provides a much larger range of services, including forecasts and archived weather data.

Written text forecasts and warnings are provided, and subsequently issued, by our forecasters who are trained in operational and broadcast meteorology. Having lived in the Weald of Kent for many years, this greatly enables our understanding of the local microclimates across the region and allows us to provide intervention to raw model output. As a result, all of our forecast output are not produced straight from the model; instead they are derived through the process of Model Output Statistics to provide a more accurate forecast, tailored to each location.

Our weather and UV forecasts are powered by YRNO and KNMI / ESA respectively, using data from a high-resolution and well-trusted forecast model. However, the forecasts are altered from the raw data to provide a much more accurate and representative local forecast. The 'current weather' on the Home Page and the Pollen Forecast are both in-house products designed and implemented here at Weald of Kent Weather.

Text forecasts and warnings are provided voluntarily, and as a result there may be periods where these products may not be updated. We apologise for any inconvenience caused during these periods, which may be beyond our control.

Special thanks go to the owners of Borders Weather and ScotWeather for their help in hosting and coding this website in the past few years. We would also like to thank Headcorn Weather for providing realtime weather conditions, which are currently displayed on the Home Page.
